Glee - The Complete Fifth Season

Now available on DVD is "Glee - The Complete Fifth Season" This 6-disc set rounds out the second-to-last season of the series (now in its sixth and final season on TV), and comes complete with all 20 episodes from the 2013-14 5th season.

Season highs from GS5 feature the highly anticipated "Quarterback" episode with the cast of characters struggling with the death of their Glee Club pal and star quarterback Finn Hudson (Cory Monteith). This moving episode is one of a few, which stands out as most memorable. Another episode, simply titled "Bash" focuses on the never-ending subjects of Gay hate crimes.

Standout guest stars from GS5 include Kristin Chenoweth, Gwyneth Paltrow, and icon Shirley MacLaine; and reenergizing the show's original flair is superstar vocalist Adam Lambert. Musical themes include an ode to Billy Joel; Katy Perry vs. Lady Gaga; "Previously Unaired Christmas" (The Flashback that never really happened); and 2 full episodes of the gang covering The Beatles.

Extras in the DVD set include; a brief electronic press-kit short celebrating Glee's 100th episode, a featurette entitled "Glee in The City" about the kids making the big move to NYC, and the return of the so-so "Jukebox" feature (a way to just watch the musical numbers within each of the 20 episodes.) There's no added director or actor commentary extra feature to be found.

Although this season has wonderful highlights, the waters of this show's plot-lines are extremely muddied. Rachel Barry makes the leap to Broadway in a revival of "Funny Girl" while the others, Kurt, Santana, Sam, Blaine, Mercedes, and Artie all conveniently follow Rachel to NYC. The show's creator and producers have lost focus with what the show started as 4 seasons prior, but diehard Gleeks will enjoy having this musical packed season at their fingertips.
