'Sexiest Lesbian Alive' Creator Phoebe Legere Launches Tour

EDGE READ TIME: 3 MIN.

Phoebe Legere, the artist and outspoken advocate for gay rights who is behind the annual Provincetown event "Sexiest Lesbian Alive," is heading to the sunny shores of Florida this week for several art and music shows celebrating gay romance. It's all part of her 2017 "Heart of Love" art/music tour.

An uplifting, family-friendly artist, she combines "French haute couture with low-down Louisiana bayou blues." The Washington Post writes, "Legere is an expressive and versatile singer whose voice ranges from a dark and earthy alto to a gorgeous dazzling high soprano. She combines intelligent lyrics and a fusion of French musette, Cajun, pop, rock, folk and jazz into a 'roots alternative' stew."

Legere will debut her paintings on January 12 in Miami, and on January 14 at the Delray Arts Garage. Join Legere as she sings, paints, and weaves a magical spell in support of her non-profit The Foundation for New American Art.

Her paintings celebrate gay romance, often set in the beauty of the extremely fragile and threatened ecosystems and threatened wild life of South Florida. Legere is also entranced by the landscape architecture and flower arrangements of the great South Florida horticulturalists.

Legere has released 15 CDs of original and traditional music including her 2014 album "GAY." Her song about endangered Florida frogs, "Hip Hop Frog," was sold to HBO in 2015.

She opened for David Bowie on his National Tour. This "multi-keyboard, vocal wizard" has been compared to Beethoven (Paper Magazine) Edith Piaf (Stephen Holden, NY Times) and Frank Zappa (Billboard).

Legere has also played piano at many of the elite country clubs in the area. In addition to being a Juilliard-trained composer, conductor and "master songwriter," Legere is a scholar of the Great American Songbook. She is active in Jewish affairs and philanthropies including her 501(c)3 Foundation for New American Art.

As the founder and Executive Director of the Foundation, she brings art and music to children of low-income communities; proceeds from Phoebe's performances will go to the Foundation. The Foundation for New American Art's mission is to: "educate, as well as nurture and strengthen the artistic and musical spirit of the children of low-income communities."
