"We live in a world where people of color, genderqueer folks and womenexperience disproportionate acts of violence," said Sapphyre Miria, one ofthe Gatherings organizers. "The Womens Gathering allows us to reconnectwith ourselves."

For 31 years, women have been traveling to the woods of Louisa, VA eachAugust to attend the annual Twin Oaks Womens Gathering. More than 100 womengather at the campgrounds for three days of dancing, stargazing andcelebrating in a supportive feminist space.

The goal of the Gathering has been the same since 1983: "CelebratingOurselves, Our Creativity, and Our Strength!"

Twin Oaks intentional community was founded in 1967 inthe Central Virginia countryside. Since then, the community has supportedseveral businesses, including hammock and tofu production.
