Award-Winning Playwrights Return to Boston for Premiere

Award-winning playwrights Theresia Walser and Karl-Heinz Ott have become dear friends since German Stage first brought them to the United States in December 2012. Now they will be returning to Boston for the third time for the American Premiere of "The Whole World."

Theresia Walser is one of the most celebrated playwrights in Germany; there are currently 10 productions of her play "A Little Calm Before the Storm" running simultaneously in Europe.

"This is a hilarious and absurd dark comedy," says Guy Ben-Aharon, Producing Artistic Director of Israeli Stage and Artist-in-Residence at the Goethe-Institut Boston. In his opinion, it takes Yasmina Reza's Tony and Olivier Award winning play 'God of Carnage' to a whole new level. "It's like 'God of Carnage' meets Beckett. This hilarious and absurd dark comedy redefines kitchen drama by literally turning everything in this kitchen upside down."

German Stage is an initiative curated and supported by the Goethe-Institut Boston to explore German culture through theater, and they could not be happier about developing this collaboration. They have noticed a strong connection between Theresia Walser's work and Boston audiences over the last three seasons.

The company has produced (as staged readings) four American Premieres and one regional Premiere: Theresia Walser's "A Little Calm Before the Storm" and "I'm Just Like You, I Love Apples," Juri Sternburg's "Now the Jerk is Somewhere Else Again," Marianna Salzmann's "Mameloschn" and Roland Schimmelpfennig's "The Golden Dragon." Each of these well-received productions featured award-winning actors from the New England area.

In addition, German Stage has toured to the following institutions: Harvard University, Brandeis University, Suffolk University, University of Maine Orono, Goethe-Zentrum Atlanta, and the General Consulate of Germany in Toronto, Waterloo and Ottawa.
