Gay Marriage Expected to Begin in Colorado

Jason St. Amand READ TIME: 1 MIN.

Colorado is one of several states where same-sex marriage is expected to begin soon now that the Supreme Court has turned away appeals from five states seeking to prohibit same-sex marriages.

The justices on Monday did not comment in rejecting appeals from Indiana, Oklahoma, Utah, Virginia and Wisconsin.

The courts order immediately ends delays on marriage in those states. Couples in six other states Colorado, Kansas, North Carolina, South Carolina, West Virginia and Wyoming should be able to get married in short order. Those states would be bound by the same appellate rulings that were put on hold pending the Supreme Courts review.

Some Colorado clerks say they're reviewing the ruling to see what to do next.
