Multi-platinum selling recording artist and equality advocate Deborah Cox will headline NYC Pride's 27th annual Dance on the Pier.

"Fresh off her captivating Broadway performance as Lucy in 'Jekyll & Hyde,' the Grammy-nominated [Cox] will rock the stage on Hudson River Park's Pier 26 as part of the closing for NYC Pride's official events," NYC Pride announced.

Cox's hits include "Nobody's Supposed to Be Here,' "Absolutely Not," and "Beautiful You," among other international chart sensations.

"I am thrilled to be at this year's Pier Dance!" Cox said. "This year's party under the stars will be a huge celebration because of all the recent progress made towards equality for the LGBT community."

Equality advocates and same-sex families nationwide anxiously await word from the Supreme Court on two cases crucial to genuine first-class citizenship for America's gay and lesbian families. Though nothing is certain, the LGBT community remains optimistic that the court will strike down anti-family laws DOMA and Proposition 8 once and for all.

NYC Pride is organized and produced by Heritage of Pride, Inc. Heritage of Pride "works toward a future without discrimination where all people have equal rights under the law." This year's NYC Pride in particular celebrates monumental steps made recently toward full equality for LGBT Americans and their families.

"We are thrilled to welcome Deborah Cox for her first performance at the Dance on the Pier," Chris Frederick, NYC Pride's managing director, said. "This year will be historic on so many levels, and we look forward to seeing Deborah perform some of her legendary hits on Hudson River Park's Pier 26."

The venue serves as the site not only for the globally famed Dance on the Pier closing event, but also NYC Pride's opening, The Rally, as well as for Pride's women's event, Rapture on the River.

Cox is the latest addition to a tradition of top musical talent at the Dance, which in past years has featured performers such as Whitney Huston, Cyndi Lauper, Janet Jackson, and others.

The 27th Annual Dance on the Pier is slated for Sunday, June 30. More information about NYC Pride's lineup of events can be found at the event's Facebook page and Twitter page, where the announcement of this year's Pride headliner will be made at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 18. More information about the 2013 edition of NYC Pride is also available at the event's official website.
